This is my first posting to Illustration Friday and I am a complete novice (as evidenced by the fact that I left my date posting on my camera when I photographed my artwork.)
This is a pastel done on suede matboard. I am a new artist and haven't created anything for close to 30 years until I started this class recently with a marvelous teacher/artist, Anne Von Ehr.

Wow, that's really pretty. Perhaps you are new, but very talented.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. In answer to your question about the pictures and kid's artwork-I bought the white frames from Pottery Barn. They are expensive, but you can find similar ones at IKEA and even Target has the matted multi opening frames. The black and white photos, I have framed in simple and inexpensive black frames from various places. You are right, these pictures are placed in a stepped pattern up my staircase.
The kids artwork is just painted on plain white paper and framed in cheap white frames from Michaels with bright colored matting. I wish I would have gotten bigger frames to make more of a statement, but oh well.
